The story
Why OpenMath exists
A real product for a real classroom 🎒
OpenMath started for one reason: a dad wanted his 3rd-grader to meet computers with something friendly and genuinely useful. Not a throwaway app — a real, well-built product the whole class could practice math on, in Hungarian and English. The plan is simple: use it in school, watch what works, and keep adding harder quizzes as the kids grow.
Funded the “family, friends & fools” way 🤝
Every product needs a first push. OpenMath is a reference project for the 3F method — family, friends and fools: the earliest backers who believe in the person before there are any metrics to point at. It’s a small, honest way to take an idea from a kitchen table to something real you can put in front of children.
Built in public 🔭
OpenMath is also a learning journey, shared openly — not just the quizzes, but the whole production stack behind them. Running a real application properly means firewalls, application gateways, observability, a path to Kubernetes, and on-prem AI. All of it is being learned, built and documented in the open. Get involved 💌
Try it with your kids or your class, suggest a quiz, or just follow along. The best ideas so far have come from real children using it — yours could be next.
