How to join
Getting into OpenMath
Registration is invitation-only right now. Here is exactly how to get a code, what happens when you use it, and the one step almost everybody misses.
🔑 Invitation only
You cannot sign yourself up — and that is deliberate
OpenMath is running with real classes, not with the whole internet. Behind every account there is somebody who handed the invitation over in person: a teacher, a parent, a colleague.
That is the whole point. No child here is one face in an anonymous crowd — the people around them in the app are the people around them at school. It is a small classroom pilot, and while it grows we would rather keep it that way.
So there is no sign-up form on this site and nothing to apply for. You need one thing: a code from somebody who is already in.
How to get a code
Two routes, and the first one is usually a two-minute conversation.
Ask the teacher
If your child’s class is already using OpenMath, the teacher has invitation links to hand out. Tell them which email address you want to use, and ask for one. That is the entire process — no form, no waiting list.
A teacher’s quota is small and personal, so ask early in the term rather than late.
No teacher on the platform yet?
Then get in touch with us directly. We are opening with grades 2–4, and we want to hear from you whether you teach a class or you are a parent who would like their child’s class to try it.
Get in touch →You will get a concrete next step, not a sales runaround.
How an invitation actually works
Five small facts. Knowing them saves the two or three emails people usually need.
It is tied to one email address
The invitation is created for one specific address. Register with exactly that one — a different address is refused.
Nobody sends you an email
OpenMath does not mail invitations out. The person who invited you hands you the link themselves — in class, in a message, however suits you.
It is a short, one-time code
The link looks like app.openmath.hu/register?code=… — one code, used once, and then it is spent.
It expires
Thirty days by default. If yours has run out, ask whoever invited you for a fresh one. There is no penalty for that.
Anyone with an account can invite
Not only teachers. Every account has a small lifetime quota — five by default — and everyone they invite joins as a student. Only an admin can invite somebody as a teacher or a parent, or change a quota.
⚠️ An invitation does not put you in a class
These are two separate steps, and nearly everybody expects them to be one. The invitation gives you an account — that is all it does. Getting into a class is the teacher’s move afterwards: they add you by your email address, and a notification appears in your app.
A parent linking a child works exactly the same way, and the child sees who is linked to their account.
So if you have registered and your teacher still cannot see you, nothing is broken. Tell them which address you signed up with.
After you register
Your first quiz, start to finish
You land on the start screen. From there it is about a minute to a first answer.
- 1
🎯Pick what to practise
The start screen asks three things: a quiz type from six topic groups, a difficulty — easy, medium or hard — and how many questions you want, anywhere from 1 to 30.
- 2
✍️Answer one question at a time
Questions are generated fresh every single time, so you never replay a fixed list. Quiz types are filtered to your age, and multiplication practice only uses the times tables you have told the app you know.
- 3
✅See straight away how it went
Right or wrong shows immediately, together with the correct answer. Badges pop up the moment you earn them.
- 4
🏁Finish with a score and a time
Percent correct, and how long it took. Everything lands in your history, which you can reopen question by question and export as a PDF.
- 5
⏸️Stop half-way if you need to
Close a quiz and you can resume it later from your history — it remembers which questions you already answered.

🎮 And when there are a few of you
Anyone with an account can host a live game — not only teachers. The host sets it up and shares a short code like MATH-A7X, everyone gathers in the lobby, and then everyone gets the same questions in the same order. See how it works →
Who gets which role
You do not choose your role while registering. This is who hands it out.
Student
What an ordinary invitation gives you. Nothing to ask for — it is the default.
Teacher
Assigned by an admin, or carried by an admin’s invitation. You cannot pick it for yourself while registering.
Parent
Also assigned by an admin. A parent cannot self-register with that role.
Admin
Looks after quiz types, users, roles and invitation quotas — the project owner’s controls.
One more thing you will notice on the sign-in screen: there is a Google sign-in button. It is built, but it is not switched on in production yet — and the button says so. Use your email address and the invitation code.
